Tortoreto Lido

Useful information

Tortoreto Lido

Tortoreto once formed a single municipality with Alba Adriatica, while now Tortoreto is a small but lively town that captivates thanks to its beaches and its historical heritage.

Pretty town in Val Vibrata, Tortoreto is a town overlooking the Adriatic coast which is known for being one of the most popular beaches in Abruzzo. Until the 1950s the city was a single municipality with Alba Adriatica, which only separated from the municipal territory of Tortoreto in 1956 to form an independent town. Like most of the coastal cities of Abruzzo, Tortoreto is also divided into two areas: Tortoreto Alta, located on a hill where the ancient core of the city is located, and Tortoreto Lido where there are long beaches that are very popular during the summer season. The two souls of Tortoreto allow you to organize a stay that allows you to enjoy both the sea and the historical and architectural heritage. Although remains from the Roman era have been found in the city, Tortoreto particularly developed towards the end of the 6th century thanks to the formation of a small inhabited nucleus which laid the first foundations for the birth of the historic center as we can see it today. Over the years, fortifications, a castle, defensive walls and watchtowers were built in this village. It was only in the 19th century that the first settlements began to appear along the flat area closest to the sea and in the 1960s this part of the coast began to develop as a tourist destination through the construction of accommodation facilities, services and large spaces intended for green. The town is surrounded by green hills that slope gently down to the sea where there is a long coastline bathed by truly clean waters. Residential and quiet, Tortoreto is a destination that welcomes tourists every summer not only from all over Italy but, in recent years, also from abroad.

The beach of Tortoreto Lido

Tortoreto Lido has over three kilometers of beaches which are very wide and characterized by fine, soft sand. The sea waters have been awarded the European Blue Flag several times for their level of cleanliness. Free beaches alternate with beaches equipped with every type of service and are ideal for families with children. The seafront area is surrounded by various green areas where there are flowers, plants and trees which become the ideal place to seek some refreshment during the hot summer days. This area also hosts a long pedestrian and cycle path that crosses the municipal territory in its entire length, connecting Tortoreto to the north with the city of Alba Adriatica and to the south with Giulianova. We suggest doing this route during sunset time when it is possible to admire magnificent landscapes on the Adriatic coast.
